The Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant has been under construction since the summer of 2022 and will be completed in early 2026. In order to undertake the necessary work, a few dozen plant shutdowns were required. Many were short duration and had no impact to the Cities of Regina and Moose Jaw. A few of them were longer term. To mitigate some of the risk, the longer shut downs were planned for low flow seasons. Most of the plant shutdowns have occurred over the last 24 months without issue or impact to the Cities. There are a few shut downs planned to be completed over the next several months.

On Wednesday, December 4th we will be shutting the Plant down for a period of upto 16 hours in order to allow the general contractor to do the necessary work. This work includes a tie in of the raw water pipeline crossover and the connection for the Biological Activated Contactor backwash system.

The Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant will not be able to supply the Cities of Regina, Moose Jaw, SaskWater (pipelines connected to the Plant) and the Buffalo Pound Provincial Park with new water during this shut down.
